Daily album #10 - You better believe it!

I discovered Gerald Wilson's Orchestra from the great box set of his pacific recordings, issued on Mosaic records.

Gerald was a trumpet player but also used to write for some of the best big bands in the forties and fifties, such as: Benny Carter, Duke Ellington, Count Basie and Dizzy Gillespie.
His own orchestra (a 17 piece orchestra) swings, grooves and sounds nothing less than those of the bands he used to work for.

This is his first album of his LA orchestra, recorded in 1961 for Pacific records.

Just to name a few of the great musicians playing here: Teddy Edwards and Harold Land (ts), Buddy Collette (as, cl, fl), Joe Maini (as), Richard "Groove" Holmes (org), Mel Lewis (d)
