Charles Mingus - Mingus Dynasty (Columbia records, 1959).
Fantastic and somehow forgotten album by Mingus and his band. This album is much more orchestrated than most of Mingus' albums, and contains some of the his best compositions.
I bought this album after hearing the "Mingus Big Band" playing tribute to the music from it. But the source is even better.
Just take a look at some of the amazing musicians playing here:
John Handy, Booker Ervin, Benny Golson, Jerome Richardson - Saxes
Richard Williams, Don Ellis - trumpets
Jimmy Knepper – trombone
Roland Hanna - piano
Charles Mingus - bass
Dannie Richmond – drums
Teddy Charles - vibes
